The Mikoyan MiG-15, produced under license in Poland as the Lim-1, was a groundbreaking jet fighter that brought advanced Soviet aviation technology to Eastern Europe in the early 1950s.
Based on the original MiG-15 design, the Lim-1 was built at the WSK-Mielec factory and closely followed the Soviet specifications, including its swept-wing layout, RD-45F turbojet engine, and powerful armament of one 37mm and two 23mm cannons.
The Lim-1 provided the Polish Air Force with a fast, agile, and heavily armed aircraft that significantly boosted its post-war air capabilities.
It played a key role in pilot training and air defense during the early Cold War period and marked the beginning of Poland’s domestic jet aircraft production.
