At 7.55am on Sunday 7th December 1941, the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor was subjected to a devastating surprise attack mounted by the Japanese Navy. Launching from six aircraft carriers in two strong attack waves, over 400 strike and fighter aircraft targeted the US Pacific Fleet moored at Pearl Harbor and the airfields at Ford Island, Hickam Field, Bellows Field and Wheeler Field. Despite inflicting significant damage, they awoke a military giant, and a nation determined to secure ultimate victory.
